A new Alfa Romeo sports car will be sold in the U.S. later this year, and variety of other models will come later, The Chicago Tribune reported.

After years waiting, the Alfa Romeo 4C will be the first of several models to be brought to the states by the Italian carmaker. The sleek, almost sexy looking new 4C will make its official world debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show, but the audience at the Chicago Auto Show was given a sneak preview.

Alfa Romeo, which is owned by Fiat, plans to bring the new mid-engine 4C to the U.S. market by fourth quarter. Over the next few years the company plans to introduce a sedan, a two-seat convertible and a small SUV to the states, The Tribune reported.

The 4C will be powered by a turbocharged 1.75-liter, all aluminum direct-injection, four-cylinder engine, the same found in the Quadrifoglio Verde version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. That engine comes with a turbocharger, as well as "a revolutionary scavenging control system that gets rid of any turbo lag," TheCarConnection  reports.

No horsepower rating has been released, but current Alfa Romeos equipped with the same engine achieve 232 horsepower, website TheTruthAboutCars reports.

Another intriguing feature on the sports car is its "driving DNA" selector, which allows the driver to switch between Dynamic, Natural and All Weather modes, plus a special Race mode.

Because the 4C has yet to make its official debut, full specifications are not available. However Edmunds.com obtained a report from Italy, where the carmaker is based, which states the 4C will have rear-wheel drive and two bucket seats, a wheelbase of less than 94.4 inches and a carbon-fiber chassis.

The car is 46.4 inches high and 78.7 inches wide. The cockpit is styled like a jet fighter and has carbon-fiber accents, the article stated.
