Drawing on inspiration from fighter jets cockpits, photos of McLaren's new P1 model's interior were released Tuesday, causing interior design fans to be giddy with anticipation and tantalizing McLaren followers with a promising glimpse of what's to come.
The latest issue from McLaren was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last year, but thanks to heavy tinting on the show car's windows, it was impossible for people to get a glimpse of what was inside.
The supercar will make its official debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show, but with a nod to the eager fans awaiting the event, McLaren released photos of the car's interior today.
A press release issued Tuesday states the cabin of the P1 is fully focused on the driver, clear from clutter and distraction.
"The interior of the McLaren P1 offers the driver and passenger a cocooning, efficiently packaged, comfortable cabin. The interior feels like the cockpit of a fighter jet, complete with glass canopy overhead and, with a windscreen deeper than it is wide, visibility is optimised," the press release stated. "This makes the car all the easier to plant on road and track."
Lightweight carbon fiber is used throughout the cabin and was incorporated into the dashboard, floor, headlining, doors and rockers. A single piece is shaped for the central control unit to further optimise weight.
The racing bucket seats use the minimum amount of foam, are encased in ultra-thin carbon fiber shells and mounted on lightweight brackets and runners. The overall weight of each seat is 10.5kg each.
The steering wheel was modeled on a CAD system and scanned to produce a replica with a diameter as technically precise as a McLaren racing driver's wheel, the press release states. The rim is finished in Alcantara, with carbon fibre inserts.
The production-ready car makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
