General Motors is planning on introducing a redesigned Cadillac CTS at the New York Auto Show in March according to a company press release. The sedan will reach showrooms by this fall.
"It's just gorgeous," said Bob Ferguson, vice president for global Cadillac to The Detroit Free Press near the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention. "We are positioning that car as a step up, so there will be a marketing challenge to reposition that car."
Ferguson stated that the company will also be releasing a coupe version of the compact Cadillac ATS in 2014.
GM has yet to reveal when they will show off the new model to the public, but stated customers can expect the same type of quality for the new design that helped the compact edition win North American Car of the Year in 2012.
GM designers and engineers have reportedly worked on the CTS to make sure it will look different from the ATS, and should be able to compete against other vehicles like BMW's 5-series.

"We've only had full inventory on ATS for a couple months, so it's way too early to declare victory. But we're pleased with what we're seeing," Ferguson said according to The Detroit Free Press.
The original CTS helped the company out during their tough financial issues and helped revitalize the company's Cadillac lineup according to GM. CTS sales have fallen as of late however thanks to the arrival of the smaller ATS and new XTS sedan according to The Detroit Free Press.
CTS sales are down 14.6 percent compared to this time last year when 46,979 vehicles were sold.
GM expects Cadillac sales to reach new heights in 2013 however, thanks to the introduction of new vehicles like the redesigned CTS.
Approximately 70 percent of ATS customers have never purchased a Cadillac before, and 50 percent have never owned a GM vehicle. The company is looking to improve sales among younger buyers and customers in California according to GM.
