Steve Jobs Wanted Apple Car Before He Passed Away, iCar Never Made It To The Design Phase, Company Still Considering It?

Steve Jobs, the former co-founder and CEO of Apple, told associates before he passed away that he wanted to create an iCar according to a report by Business Insider.

"It's a tragedy in America. Who is designing the cars?" said Mickey Drexler, the CEO of J.Crew according to Business Insider. "Steve's dream before he died was to design an iCar."

Many experts believe that the iCar could have made a serious impact on the American car market with Drexler even stating that the car "would have been probably 50 percent of the market" if it had been released.

Now that the secret is out of the bag, one has to wonder if Apple will actually go through with Jobs' dream of releasing an Apple car. At least two of Apple's executives would like to see the company try according to the report.

Eddy Cue, the company's senior vice president of Internet software and services, is reportedly on the board of Ferrari, while Phil Schiller, its senior vice president of worldwide marketing, has a passion for automobiles according to Business Insider.

"In a meeting in his office before he died, Stephen P. Jobs, Apple's co-founder and former chief executive, told John Markoff of The New York Times that if he had more energy, he would have liked to take on Detroit with an Apple car," wrote Nick Bilton of The New York Times in a recent piece

Apple's biggest rival Google has already started testing their own vehicle, as they're attempting to release the first completely driverless vehicle within the next decade.

A number of photos and videos have been released of Google's self-driving vehicle, which would seem to indicate they're getting closer than ever to finally releasing their car. Whether the vehicle will be a success or not remains to be seen.

Current Apple CEO has yet to comment on the news that Jobs wanted to create an iCar, nor has anyone within the company indicated they've finally started the design process. Other vehicles seem to indicate that an iCar could be successfully produced however, such as the Tesla Model S comes equipped with a 17-inch touchscreen that acts more like an iPad in your vehicle.

This means that Apple could do something similar, and if you had access to an iPad instead, passengers would have the ability to access more apps and media while out on the road somewhere. VentureBeat.com also suggests that restrictions would have to be placed on certain apps if Apple was to construct an iCar. If certain apps like YouTube or Facebook are accessed while the car is moving, they could prevent safe driving.

Jobs was also reportedly close to introducing an Apple watch device that would have acted more like a computer than a standard watch.
