If Winter Storm Nemo is anywhere near as bad as Weather.gov says it will be, it could cause major power outages in areas all around New Jersey. Jersey Central Power & Light's (JCP&L) mobile app and website can be used to make reporting an incident a little easier according to the Associated Press.

The free app is available for the Apple devices like the iPhone 5, Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S3. JCP&L customers have the option to use the keyword "FirstEnergy" to find apps through their phone's online store.

If your home does lose power, mobile cell phones can be charged by using a car charger. Once your smartphone is charged, customers can access JCP&L's online restore electric service. If you don't own a cellphone car charger, make sure to keep an eye out for locations providing free cellphone charging service.

Some features that the app provides includes a simple power outage reporting process and access to the company's 24/7 Power Center outage maps.

The app also provides customers with a click-to-call feature to reach the company's customer service and links to JCP&L's social media websites.

Dealing with any storm can be stressful, and doing so without power or heat is even worse. Here's a list of things to consider before the storm gets to crazy according to JCP&L.

Safety Tips To Consider:

- If you lose power, call 1-888-544-4877 to report the outage. A crew will be sent as soon as it is deemed safe to access your local roads.

- Gather extra blankets and/ or sleeping bags for each member of the house to make sure each person stays warm.

 - Make sure you have a portable radio handy so you can be updated on the storm and the JCP&L's progress.

Do not use gas stoves, kerosene heaters, or any open-flame appliances as heat sources. They can cause deadly carbon monoxide gas to build up in your house

Keep all flashlights nearby and make sure they have fresh batteries. Avoid using candles, especially around children

- If you have a water well and pump, make sure you have a supply of bottled water or if you weren't able to, fill your bathtub with fresh water.
