"Chicago is Toyota's truck show," said Bill Fay, Toyota group VP and general manager, marking the 10th year the company has unveiled a new truck at the Chicago event.

The redesigned vehicle includes a fresh look designed by Calty Design Research centers in Newport Beach, C.A. Tundra models are assembled specifically at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in San Antonio, Texas.

Toyota is hoping the new Tundra will help the company make some noise in the full-size pickup segment usually dominated by the "Big Three" Detroit companies. The company sold approximately 101,000 Tundra vehicles in 2012 according to The Chicago Tribune. This number is drastically behind the Ford which sold 645,000 F-Series models last year.

Fay is hoping the company sells 1.8 million Tundra vehicles by 2015.

Tundra offers three different powertrain options: A 4.0-liter Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) V6 is standard on Tundra Regular and Double Cab models and produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. peak torque. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with uphill/downhill shift logic according to the company press release.

Other options include the 4.6-liter DOHC i-Force V8 which offers 310 horsepower and 327 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 5.7-liter DOHC i-Force V8 produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque, in both gasoline and "Flex Fuel" versions according to the company press release.

Both V8's come with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. All Tundra engines feature an aluminum cylinder block and DOHC heads, along with Dual Variable Valve Timing.

"Toyota prides itself on listening to its customers and the development of the 2014 American-born Tundra is a perfect example," said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. "Tundra's new exterior design and all-new interior were inspired by customer feedback requesting a more chiseled exterior and refined interior with improved driver ergonomics, and easy-to-use technology, giving customers more of what they want instead, in addition to what they need."

Pricing for the new vehicle will be released closer to its arrival in showrooms this September according to Toyota.
