The self-driving cars are not a thing of future anymore. They have slowly entered our present and before long we will realize that they are everywhere. Even before people could witness what the self-driving cars could do, some were fortunate to see the driverless cars racing against themselves.
The driverless race of the self-driving cars was organized in Buenos Aires. A self-driving racing series called Roborace was the testing ground for the self-driving cars. The self-driving cars took part in the race on the same track used for the Formula E Buenos Aires ePrix. This is an annual event that brings together enthusiasts and competitors from all over the world.
It can be said that the first professional outing of the self-driven cars did not go quite as planned. There were two vehicles in the race and one of them completed and hence won the race. It should be noted that the car moved much slower than human-controlled cars. Its competitor did not end up second or even last as the second car in the race could not complete what it started, reported Daily Dot.
According to reports, the other car in the race crashed into one of the side barriers en route. It ended the race much before than it intended to. Here, it should be noted that it is still a nascent phase for the self-driving cars. To put the engineering and technology to test at a 100-plus mile per hour is definitely stretching its limits. However, the race proved that there is much more work that is needed on the self-driving cars and their technology, reported Engadget.
It was intriguing to know how a race without people will actually gain enthusiasts. Since this race was the first of its kind, it gained a lot of attention at the Prix. However, we do not know how the future for self-driving car races would be.
