Georgia police officials have confirmed a fiery pileup involving at least 27 vehicles on Interstate 16 has left at least three people dead according to the Associated Press.

"Once we got there, the fog was kind of lifted at the scene," Cobb said according to a report by the Associated Press.
The report states that a petroleum tanker truck also caught fire in the incident that occurred near Montrose on I-16. Laurens County EMS Director Terry Cobb stated that 12 people were taken to a hospital in a nearby town of Dublin.
The total number of injuries has yet to be confirmed.
Cobb stated to the Associated Press that at least six vehicles were still on fire by the time rescue workers had arrived.
Video from a WMAZ-TV telecast shows dark and heavy smoke all along the interstate.

It wasn't known what exactly caused the wrecks, but the area was under a dense fog advisory at the time according to Laura Belanger, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City according to The New York Daily News.
Belanger stated in certain areas it was tough to see and visibility was only a quarter-mile or less.
The state patrol stated four separate crashes took place, involving over 27 different vehicles. The pileup shut down roughly seven-miles of the highway.
