Penelope Soto learned the hard way that when you disrespect a judge, you pay the price.
Soto was arrested for possession of Xanax bars and anxiety medication was asked to stand in front of the judge for sentencing this week according to NBC News. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat wanted to know about Soto's financial assets before doling out a penalty, but he couldn't get a straight answer from the teenager.
The nonchalant 18-year-old irritated the Chomat by constantly "flipping her hair, dodging questions, and laughing derisively" according to the report. Soto was also asked if she was under the influence of any drugs at the time, which she responded she wasn't while smiling.
The judge gave Soto a reasonable $5,000 fine and told Soto she could leave. Soto laughed and responded "Adios" before turning to walk away. Chomat wasn't pleased with her tone, and told the ten that the fine had been raised to $10,000.
Soto then asked the judge if he was serious, which he responded "I am serious. Adios."
You would think Soto would be wise enough to not mess with the judge anymore, but the teen responded by giving him the finger, thus cementing her status in internet history.
The judge, who had seen enough of Soto's antics, found her in contempt of court and sentenced her to 30-days in jail. The news seemed to surprise Soto, when in reality she was all but asking to be arrested.
What do you think? Do you think the punishment was justifiable and she'll learn her lesson while serving her time, or was the punishment too harsh?
