For all those Apple owners who have waited for what seemed like decades to free your phone, tablet or music player, the wait is finally over. A new tool called evasiOn was released this week, and works on any Apple device running iOS 6 or higher.
The news means that for the first time since its September release, people can finally free their iPhone 5 smartphones. Hundreds of developers have claimed they had successfully freed their phone, and some even stated they would release the software to do so. All of them either backed out of their promise or like one fake account that went by the name Dream JB, they were conducting an experiment to prove how people are too trusting.
Respected hacker who goes by the Twitter handle @planetbeing stated last week that the software would be made available by Feb. 4, and he stayed true to his word. The download link for the latest jailbreak software, officially available for Windows, OS X and Linux, is live now on the evasiOn website.

The software is simple to use if you do everything correctly. Apple doesn't intend for things like this to happen, so it's not like your device is set up to be jailbroken. Before doing anything, make sure you've backed up all your data from your iOS device.
Use iTunes or iCloud to back up all data that you don't want to risk losing during the process. If something does go wrong, you won't be able to get back what you had previously stored on your device.
It's suggested by the evasiOn team to disable your passcode to your device if you have one set. A passcode could cause issues with the process according to the evasiOn website. To disable your code, click settings, general, and then passcode lock.
Next all you need to do is go to the evasiOn website on your computer and then plug in your device and run the program.

To run the program, click the Jailbreak button, and your device should light up, and restart during the process. A few more minutes will go by before you're asked to tap the "Jailbreak" icon. Only tap the icon once. Your device will flash once and then the app on your computer will finish.
Seconds later a pop-up will appear to let you know the jailbreak is complete. Your device will reboot itself a couple times while it is in the middle of finishing the step. Once it is done, you'' be able to see your lock screen and wallpaper. To confirm the process is complete, you should be able to see a Cydia icon on your home page according to the evasiOn website.
Multiple websites have confirmed the process takes only five to 10 minutes to complete for the iPhone 5. If a problem does occur during any of the steps, the evasiOn website urges people to reboot your device and start over.
