The worldwide motorsport plans for Nissan confirms that they will be losing factory support for Always Evolving Team in the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) in 2017. Although there is a new 2017 spec GT-R GT3 to make a debut that the team would use.
According to RACER, Nissan will undergo significant changes in 2017 and would be reducing its two-car effort into one. Also, The Always Evolving Team would now be funding its reentry as it is shifting to customer program after years of direct funding from Nissan.
The late dropping of support from Nissan was unexpected by the team. The single entry is still expected to compete in the PWC program and be in the opening round at St. Petersburg.
Furthermore, BlackFlag writes about that Nissan is focusing on learning about the new car, the GT-R GT3, and getting wins for their sponsors. The pending delivery of the 2017 Spec GT-R GT3 should still take place in time for the team to assemble and make its debut in Long Beach.
There are still speculations if their full-time driver would add PWC SprintX Rounds into their calendar. That speculation is to be answered in a few weeks while the team is carefully planning out their goals with a one-man effort, which was once hoped that the previous two-car effort would increase into a three-car effort.
Nevertheless, Dave Green, a representative of Team Nissan, says that 2017 would be the year in developing the Nissan GT-R. They will still continue with the PWC program and that the extent of its program is arriving soon.
Even with the sudden changes from Nissan and the dropping of support for the team, the race would still continue for The Always Evolving Team in PWC. What Nissan wants to do is still unclear; speculations regarding support would be answered in the near future. For now, they are more focusing into the new Spec GT-R GT3.
