If you're getting tired of the winter cold you won't have to worry much longer, as an early spring is on the way, at least according to groundhog "Punxsutawney Phil."
When the groundhog rose from under the ground in Pennsylvania, he did not see his shadow, meaning spring is right around the corner according to legend.
"And so ye faithful, there is no shadow to see, an early Spring for you and me," proclaimed Bob Roberts, one of Phil's handlers to the crowd of over 35,000 according to ABC News.
Had Phil seen his shadow, it would have meant people should prepare for at least six more weeks of winter.
Punxsutawney has kept the tradition of Groundhog Day alive since the 1887, and since then the world's most famous groundhog, and his predecessors, have seen their shadow approximately 99 times. There was no prediction for nine years according to The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
The NOAA National Climate Data Center states that Phil's forecasts have shown "no predictive skill" the past few years according to The Washington Post. AccuWeather said recently that the groundhog has an 80 percent accuracy rate.

In 2012, Phil's prediction was spot on, as he predicted six more weeks of winter. At least 48 states saw a longer winter than most years, and didn't experience hot weather until March. For this year however, AccuWeather and Phil aren't on the same page.
"A couple of winter storms may impact the Northeast during February and March," said AccuWeather about this coming spring. "The potential exists for snow along the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to New York City and Boston."
Other locations and famous groundhogs plan on making predictions as well like Atlanta's "General Beauregard Lee," New York's "Staten Island Chuck," and North Carolina's "Sir Walter Wally."
A movie titled "Groundhog Day" was released in 1993, and starred Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and was directed by Harold Ramis. The movie made over $70 million in the box office according to IMDB.
