"This will help us move more efficiently and effectively" to bring products to market quickly," said Sam Winegarden according to The Detroit Free Press.

The plan is a part of the company's previously announced plan to invest approximately $1.5 billion into their North American facilities this year according to a company press release.

The expansion will allow the company to consolidate work being done at four different locations to help reduce development timing for "GM's next-generation advanced propulsion technologies," according to GM.

When all is said and done, the company will be adding 400 jobs to the new building. Around 3,500 workers are employed at offices in Wixom, Castelton, Ind, Torrance, Calif., and an R&D laboratory at GM's Techical Center in Warren according to the press release.

Workers at these locations will be offered jobs at the new Pontiac complex, while others will be allowed to transfer to other GM locations according to Winegarden.

"These moves will help our entire Powertrain team work more effectively across the organization to develop the powertrain technologies we need to build the world's best vehicles for our customers around the world," said Sam Winegarden, GM vice president of Global Engine Engineering.

The company also announced that they will be moving their Chevrolet Corvette assembly plant to Bowling Green, K.Y. by the first quarter of 2014.
