Nokia is set to make its comeback at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017). The Finnish tech company is expected to launch three new phones.
Venture Beat reported that HMD Global Oy, the Finnish manufacturer who has exclusive rights to market the company's new phones, will announce four new handsets. This is according to someone who knows the company's plan, said the report.
Not a lot of information is known about the 3 except that it will be an entry-level Android. It will have a starting price tag of $159 (€149).
The Nokia 5 is rumored to have the same chipset as the 6, the Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip. Its display is expected to be 5.2 inches at 720p and it will have 2 GB of RAM. The primary image sensor will also only be 12 megapixels and will likely retail for $212.
The 6 has already launched in China. It will also launch to the rest of the world at MWC. A detailed review of the smartphone is available here.
Android. CNET reported that a huge part of Nokia's comeback hinges on Android. In the past, many wondered why the Finnish company chose to partner with Microsoft (Lumia) back in 2014. While there was some interest in the phones, the mobile platform just wasn't working. Many believe it would have been more successful had they launched on an Android platform.
And most exciting among the lineup is the return of the 3310! The 3310 is a legendary phone said to be able to withstand nearly all sorts of accidents due to its well-built exterior. The phone will launch in its original glory for $63. It won't be up to date but some may still be interested in it as a novelty item.
Nokia is expected to be the big winner of this year's Mobile World Congress. Other smartphone manufacturers that are supposed to shine are Sony, Huawei, and LG.
