Tim Cook, chief executive officer of tech giant Apple, has recently spoken out against fake news. The tech executive has voiced his concerns over the need to diminish the volume of fake news on the internet.

Apple CEO against online fake news. Cook had identified the problem of fake news in modern society during a trip to the United Kingdom the previous week. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph published on Friday, Cook stated that tech firms should assist in solving the problem of fake news.

Cook was quoted as saying, "All of us technology companies need to create some tools that help diminish the volume of fake news." He further added that he believes fake news is only short phenomenon. However, with clicks being more of value than actual truth, instigators are winning and "killing people's minds".

The Apple CEO is calling for a campaign against fake news involving not just tech firms but also the government. Cook continued by saying that the campaign "has to be ingrained in the schools" and "in the public" and that there is a great need for a public-service announcement for the modern-day. "There has to be a massive campaign. We have to think through every demographic," Cook was quoted as saying.

Knowing which is fact-based news and fabricated stories written to deceive has been quite difficult for the online public. It has been equally, or even more, difficult for tech firms such as Google and Facebook to rid the internet of them.

Facebook, for example, has been one of many online media used for the viral spread of fake news. This has prompted the social networking giant to mount an effort to combat the problem which includes making it convenient for users to report fake news and forging partnerships with external fact-checking organizations.
