The all new Lamborghini Urus SUV has been confirmed, and some spy photographers have caught one pre-production model testing on a motorway in Denmark. The prototype was spotted for the first time by a reader of a local website called Pro-Street, which has more of the images.

The spy photos reveal for the first time the shape of the new vehicle in production trim, and as anticipated the vehicle is a little bulkier compared to the rakish concept. Basing on the spy images, it appears to have lost the concept's pumped fenders, but at least the Countach-style wheel arches remain.

The automaker's first SUV since the 1986 LM002 is said to be built on the same platform that is used on the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, and 2018 Porsche Cayenne. It will also highlight the brand's first plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will be available along with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre petrol V8 engine that produces somewhere between 500 and 600 horsepower.

In addition, the engine will be the automaker's first turbocharged V8. Lamborghini executives avoid using the aspirated V10 and V12 units from the famous Huracan and Aventador for the new SUV in pursuit for a better fuel economy and extensive power spread.

According to Autocar, Lamborghini has already confirmed that it won't offer rear-wheel drive versions of the new Lamborghini Urus. That concept will also be on the Aventador but not on the Huracan, which is already equipped with a four-wheel drive and rear-wheel-drive.

The new model will be focusing on the on-road performance and it's been confirmed that the new SUV will offer modes to handle offer road conditions like sand, snow, gravel and much more. It will also be equipped with a personalized mode same to the Ego mode that's fitted on the Aventador S.

The automaker will begin the production of their new Lamborghini Urus SUV this coming April, so expect it to hit showrooms in early 2018. No official debut date yet has been confirmed, but it has been speculated that the vehicle could appear at the Geneva Motor Show along with the Huracan Performante.
