Chevrolet announced this week that they have offered their first retail production model of the 2014 Corvette Stingray to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction this weekend. All proceeds will go towards the College for Creative Studies in Detroit which is known for their automotive design program.
The company announced the news in a press release this week.
"The new Stingray features a modern, dramatic design that will inspire a new generation of Corvette enthusiasts," said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design in the press release. "With the proceeds of the new Stingray going to the CCS, the new Corvette will also help cultivate the next generation of designers who may work on modern, dramatic Chevrolets in the future. In fact more than 170 CCS alumni already work in the GM Design studios."
The College for Creative Studies is respected as one of the world's most premier institutions for industrial and transportation design according to Chevrolet. The CCS enrolls nearly 1,400 students pursuing undergraduate degrees in 12 different majors or graduate degrees in Design and Transportation design.
The CCS was founded as the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts in 1906, but then grew into an arts education organization. In 1933, they gained attention from all-over the world for being one of the first art institutions to classify automobile design as an art form according to GM.
Four other Chevy models will be up for auction along with the new Stingray model, including GM's CEO Dan Akerson's 1958 Corvette. The Turquoise roadster includes a 245-horsepower small-block V-8 engine and will be sold on Jan. 18. Proceeds will go towards the Habitat for Humanity.

Guy Fieri's personalized 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible will be sold as well, which includes a 505-hp LS7 engine. The vehicle is painted black with custom yellow stripes and features embroidered seat headrests according to GM. The proceeds made will go towards the Guy Fieri Foundation for Inspiration and Imagination.
A COPO Camaro convertible and a Camaro ZL 1 Convertible will also be sold this weekend with the proceeds going towards the American Heart Association and the Achilles International foundation, respectively.
The auction for the Stingray is set for Jan. 19 and bids can be submitted in person at the auction or online at barrett-jackson.com.
