General Motors announced this week that they will be revealing the new, redesigned 2014 Corvette on Jan. 13 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

GM has already stated that they're hoping to speed up the overall timeline for Corvette vehicles, one of which has averaged nine years and even stretched to 15 years once.

"When you see a Corvette in a showroom, most know that Chevrolet embodies performance, value and is unapologetically American," said Mark Reuss, president of GM's North American operations to The Los Angeles Times.

On many occasions, the Corvette has been the company's "barometer" to determine if the brand will succeed that year according to Yahoo.

Corvette redesigns usually boost vehicle sales for GM sports cars, many times by 50 percent or more according to GM. Not everyone is confident the vehicle will succeed however, especially in the U.S.

"The negative is that, in the minds of Corvette owners, it is a Corvette before it is a Chevy," said Jeremy Anwyl, vice chairman of Edmunds.com to The Los Angeles Times. "It is not like you go look at the Corvette and walk out with a Cruze. If they took the money they spent on Corvette development and spent it on a couple of marketing campaigns, they would get more bang for their buck."

The last Corvette model to be released was issued in 2005, but Reuss stated fans won't have to wait as long for the next model. Corvette usually sells in small volumes, especially during a bad economy. Sales reached as low as 12,000 vehicles sold in 2012 according to GM.
