The Dodge Durango's SRT is arriving. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV offers this new, 475-horsepower SRT for those who are torn between their love for SUVs and muscle cars.
According to reports, Fiat Chrysler will debut the Dodge Durango SRT as the world's most powerful three-row SUV at the Chicago Auto Show. The Durango SRT will be showcased along with a hot-rod version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV sold under the Street & Racing Technology line.
In a statement, head of the Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat brands for FCA North America, said, "This takes everything that's great about the Durango and everything that's awesome about the Charger SRT and puts it together in one bad-ass SUV." This was during a briefing in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
The Dodge Durango SRT is powered by a 392-cubic-inch, 6.4-liter V-8 Hemi engine. It can crank out up to 475 horsepower and up to 470 foot-pounds of torque.
The engine will be paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission. It will also be outfitted with full-time and all-wheel drive, much to the satisfaction of the fans.
It can go from zero to 60 miles per hour within just 4.4 seconds. According to reports, the Dodge Durango SRT can trip the quarter-mile within 12.9 seconds.
Aside from what's under the hood, interested buyers will also be impressed with the updated look of the Durango SRT. It is now more aggressive, and the interior boasts a different design.
According to Kuniskis, the SUV now has a T-shaped electronic shifter inside instead of the usual rotary knob. It also features a new shift feel as well as an updated ride dynamic.
The sound is updated, too. According to Pete Jacobsen, Dodge Durango vehicle development manager, the exhaust of the SRT was tuned to sound like the 392 Charger.
"It's really a lifestyle enabler," Jacobsen said. "You can tow a 27-foot boat with this car. You can put three horses on a trailer and tow it. And you can tow a 32-foot travel trailer."
It features seven drive modes. This includes a sports mode that cuts shift times by up to 50 percent. The street mode can be used for everyday driving while the track mode is even quicker in its shifts. The rest of the modes are for snow, tow, valet and eco.
Fiat Chrysler will show the all-new Dodge Durango SUV on Thursday at the Chicago Auto Show. Experts say it will be the highlight of the event.
