The 2017 Cadillac ATS is a small luxury sedan that definitely stands out from the crowd. It is eye-catching, impressively agile, and loaded with tech features. It is a good choice.
Pros and Features. The ATS is small and light and is the automaker's answer to the BMW 3 Series. First introduced in 2013, the ATS is a truly appealing small luxury sedan.
It has plenty of performance enhancements which makes the car fun to drive. And it is also a welcome relief that it comes with a manual transmission which is rare in its class.
Cons. The CUE or Cadillac User Experience interface can sometimes be frustrating. The sedan also has a small backseat and trunk.
Additionally, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is relatively noisy. It is also not fuel efficient.
What's New? For 2017, the ATS' 2.5-liter engine is no longer available. Additionally, the ATS' features have changed and CUE is now part of the standard equipment.
Models. The 2017 ATS is a compact luxury sports sedan. It is offered in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. It is available with the following models: ATS, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Premium Performance. There is also an ATS Couple as well as the high-performance ATS-V, which are not a part of this review.
The base ATS features 17-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, keyless ignition and entry, and a driver information screen. For its tech features, the Cadillac ATS already comes with the CUE infotainment system with voice controls, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone app functionality, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and other tech features.
The Luxury model adds a navigation system, leather seating surfaces, parking sensors, remote start for automatic transmission, and an 110-volt power outlet. The Premium Luxury adds adaptive xenon headlights with automatic high beam lights, LED running lights, a sunroof, and collision alert. It also has other safety features such as lane departure prevention and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Premium Performance is available in rear-wheel drive only. It includes features from the Premium Luxury model and adds Magnetic Ride Control adaptive dampers, 18-inch wheels, special tires, and other features. Both the Premium Luxury and Premium Performance models are available only with the 3.6-liter V6 engine with eight-speed AT.
Verdict. The 2017 Cadillac ATS is a top contender in its class. It is fun to drive, has a wide array of safety and tech features, and has a beautiful exterior.
