Kia Motors is reporting that they have surpassed their best-ever full-year sales total in less than 11 months, selling approximately 557,599 vehicles in 2012. This is a 14.9 percent increase over the company's previous high set in 2011.
The company made the announcement in a press release issued this week.
"2012 was an historic year filled with a number of important achievements for the Kia brand including our 18th straight annual market share increase, surpassing the 500,000 unit mark for the first time, and the sale of the four millionth Kia vehicle in the U.S.," said Byung Mo Ahn , group president and CEO of KMA and KMMG in the press release.
Kia is recognized around the world as one of the "fastest-growing car companies in the U.S. over the last five years" and sales in December backed those claims up. The company sold approximately 39,178 vehicles to help extend Kia Motors streak of annual market share increases to over 18 years according to the press release.
The excellent sales numbers in 2012 could have something to do with the U.S.-constructed Optima, having sold 12,008 vehicles in December alone. The midsize vehicle has become the first car the company has produced to top 150,000 annual sales overall as well according to Kia.
The Kia Sorento CUV, which is also built at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia facility, represented over 40 percent of vehicles sold in 2012. The new Sorento was recently named to Consumer Guide's annual "Best Buy" list due to several "unique features and outstanding attributes" according to a company press release.
"Kia is advancing value to new levels of sophistication by combining world-class automotive design, cutting-edge technologies and premium amenities with affordable pricing, and the brand's maturation process will continue this year with seven all-new or significantly redesigned vehicles scheduled to arrive in our showrooms over the next 12 months," said Mo Ahn in the press release.
