Apple has started testing a new iPhone and the next version of its iOS software system according to a report by The Next Web.
Developers have reportedly found app usage logs referencing a new iPhone identified as the iPhone 6.1 which will run on the iOS 7 operating system according to the report. This would be the follow up to the iPhone 5 which has been in high demand since its release in September 2012.
Developer logs also show that the app requests originate from an internet address on Apple's Cupertino campus according to Reuters. This could mean Apple engineers are testing compatibility for some of their more popular apps.

"Although OS and device data can be faked, the unique IP footprint leading back to Apple's Cupertino campus leads us to believe this is not one of those attempts," the website said.
Some experts like Raymond James analyst Tavis McCourt expect the next version of the iconic smartphone to be called the iPhone 5S, not the iPhone 6. Apple has not confirmed what the next iPhone device will be called.
If Apple sticks with what they have done in the past, the next device will most likely include the letter "S" in the name, since they like to release a similar, yet updated version of the most current model before releasing a completely new one. Apple followed the iPhone 3 with the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 4 was followed with the iPhone 4S for example.
Techradar.com claimed in December that Apple would unveil the next iPhone device as early as spring 2013, though that has not been confirmed by Apple yet either.
Topeka Capital analyst Brian White reports that the next device could come in three different screen sizes as well. The rumored sizes include a 3.5-inch screen, a 4-inch screen, and a slightly bigger model as well. He has also predicted that the phone will come in different colors like pink, blue and yellow.
