Members of the rock band Green Day confirmed this week that they will return to the road in March after they were forced to cancel and postpone their entire fall tour so that lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong could go for treatment for substance abuse.
"We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," the band members said in a statement on their website. "We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."
Armstrong decided to get help for substance abuse treatment in September after he smashed a guitar on-stage during an outburst at the 2012 iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas. Armstrong had an issue with the fact that he felt his band wasn't getting enough playing time at a festival compared to other acts.
Armstrong posted another note on Instagram about Green Day's plans to tour this spring.
"I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months," said Armstrong in the post. "Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better every day. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger."
The tour will begin in Chicago on March 28, with dates in Pittsburgh, New York, Toronto and other cities up through April 12 in Quebec City according to Reuters. More West Coast dates will be added within the next couple of months.
All tickets for postponed dates will be honored at the new dates, and tickets for canceled shows will be refunded at the point of purchase.
The band was expected to tour most of 2012 to support three new albums they released this year alone. The latest CD "iTre!" was released last month, and reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Green Day has been around since the late 1980's and has sold over 65 million records worldwide according to Reuters. The group has won five Grammy awards, including Record of the Year for their song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" in 2006.
