A woman pushed a man to his death in front of a subway train on Dec. 27, making it the second time in under a month that someone has been killed after being pushing onto train tracks. The man was standing on an elevated platform waiting for the 7 train in Queens, N.Y. at 8 p.m. when he was shoved by the woman according to a report by the Associated Press.
The report states that witnesses saw the woman following the man closely and "mumbling to herself" according to New York Police Department chief spokesman Paul Browne. When the train pulled up, the woman got off of a bench, and shoved the man, who had been standing with his back to her, onto the tracks.
Browne stated that it was difficult to identify the body after the incident. Police haven't been able to confirm if the man and woman knew each other before he was struck and killed by the train.
The woman fled the scene before police could show up, and police are currently searching for her. She was described by witnesses as Hispanic, around 5-foot-5, in her mid-20's and was wearing a ski jacket and Nike sneakers.
Service was suspended for the 7 train shortly after the incident which connects Manhattan and Queens. Metropolitan Transportation Authority used buses to shuttle riders as police investigated the scene.
This is the second death to occur at a subway station in N.Y. after 58-year-old Ki-Suck Han was pushed in front of a train in Times Square on Dec. 3. A photo was published on the cover of The New York Post of him on the tracks a second before he was killed, causing debate around the world on whether or not the photographer should have tried helping him or even if the newspaper should have printed the picture at all.
Homeless man Naeem Davis was charged with murder in Han's death, and was ordered held without bail according to the Associated Press. He pleaded not guilty and said that Han was the aggressor and attacked him first.
