Apple is preparing to release a lighter, thinner iPad 5 this coming March that will remind interested buyers of the recently released iPad Mini according to a Japanese blog Macotakara.
The blog post claims rumors about the next iPad Mini, stating that the device will be issued with a Retina Display. This shouldn't come as any surprise, as users of the original iPad Mini have been complaining about the issue since the device was released.
If the newer iPad is in fact released in March, it would change the already shortened product schedule for Apple's tablet. The iPad 4 was released in November, just eight months after the previous one was issued to the public. Many reports claim Apple released the product early to capitalize on the holiday season and to compete with the Microsoft Surface.
The newer iPad would be released just five months after the iPad 4.
"According to my inside source, iPad 5 may be released in March, 2013," the blogger wrote this week. "Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm)."
Apple has yet to respond to the rumors, as the blog post cited unnamed sources for both devices. It is unclear why the company would want to release the iPad 5 so close after the previous one, as March isn't usually a big sales month for Apple.
The blog post claims the new device will be 4mm high and 17 mm wide.
Cnet.com has already predicted that the device will come in a number of assorted colors like silver, black and white. All three colors are currently offered for the iPad Mini. The iPad 4 features a number of new hardware upgrades and got rid of the 30-pin dock connector in exchange for a smaller one. It will be interesting to see what the company will be able to change in just five months.
