Apple recently announced record sales of $78.4 billion in the last quarter of 2016, an all-time high and much higher than the $75.9 billion in the same quarter of the previous year. The record sales of iPhone models have catapulted Apple as the top smartphone seller worldwide.
The announcement confirmed the increasing demand for Apple's iPhone models that sold 78.3 million units in the last quarter of 2016. According to Rappler, the big rebound in the 2016 last quarter sales was a relief to investors concerned about Apple's declining growth.
"We're thrilled to report that our holiday quarter results generated Apple's highest quarterly revenue ever, and broke multiple records along the way," said Apple CEO Tim Cook. The last quarter sales of iPhone, Services, Mac and Apple Watch surpassed previous records.
The company's 2016 last quarter profits amounted to only $17.9 billion, down by 2.6 percent compared to the last quarter of the previous year. Still, the high performing last quarter sales of 2016 raised Apple's shares by 3 percent to $124.80.
Apple overtook Samsung as the world's top smartphone seller in the last 3 months of 2016, according to Strategy Analytics. The strong finish was impressive because sales in China were down to only $16.2 billion, down by 12 percent from the previous year.
The success of the Apple iPhone can be attributed to the current lifestyles of people using their smartphones in almost every aspect of daily living, at home, security systems, synched cars, health care and other activities. Along with the high number of iPhones sold in the market, Apple has the opportunity to market its services, digital content and other online commerce.
Apple's services revenue has increased by 18 percent from the previous year to $7.2 billion and sales of other products like the Apple Watch have also gone up to $4 billion. It is the marketing potential of these services and other related products that will help keep Apple as the top seller of smartphones worldwide.
