Ford announced this week that their 2013 C-Max Hybrid has become the fastest-selling hybrid vehicle ever. The new model was released this past October and through November the company sold 8,030 models according to a company press release.

The newest C-Max and C-Max Energi models out sold the previous record holder, the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which sold 7,300 models from May through June of 2006.

"Dealers are seeing an overwhelmingly positive response to C-MAX hybrids and are excited to finally take on Prius, with some offering comparison test drives right on their lots," said C.J. O'Donnell, group marketing manager in the press release.

In November alone the company saw its best sales month ever for electric vehicles, selling over 7,157 models. The C-Max and C-Max Energi outsold the Toyota Prius V and Prius Plug-in by nearly 10 percent according to Ford. The company is already predicting an all-time record for hybrid sales by the end of December.

The newest C-Max models are also outselling the combined sales for the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight that were released in 2000. November was the first month that both the C-Max Hybrid and Energi were available at dealerships according to Ford.

"Our customers also are excited to have a fresh hybrid option, with leading fuel economy that does not sacrifice driving fun, performance and technology - choices typically not offered with hybrids," said O'Donnell.

The Hybrid was also named one of the three finalists for the 2013 North American Truck/Utility of the Year award this month. The nominees include the Ford C-Max, Mazda CZ-5 and Ram 1500 which were announced during a luncheon held by the Automotive Press Association.

Ford Motors is the only manufacturing company to have a finalist in each of the award categories according to The Detroit News. All awards will be presented at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

To qualify for awards, vehicles have to either been a completely new model or "substantially changed" from a previous model which will then be voted on and tested by a panel of judges .

"Fuel economy has become the No. 1 purchase consideration as customers try to save money at the pump," said O'Donnell in the release. "C-MAX hybrids highlight Ford's commitment to offer customers the power to choose leading fuel economy across our lineup."
