Ford Fiesta Awarded CAP’s “Best Used Car Of The Year” For Trusted Reputation, Affordability

The Ford Fiesta was named CAP's "Used Car of the Year" this week for its overall reputation and affordability in a recovering economy.

The award was created by CAP to recognize the "real life qualities of a used car and the value it brings" to owners and to the automotive business combined.

"It is always tempting for the motoring media and other industry observers to take the 'petrol head' approach when giving awards to cars which excite them but the CAP Used Car of the Year Award recognizes the contribution a car really makes to consumers and dealers alike," said Mark Norman of CAP to Car Dealer Magazine.

The company awarded Ford with the 2012 honor for many reasons, including its sustained popularity in the used market throughout the year, and its reliability to service customers as if the car was new. The vehicle also has a perfect trade or retail sale value according to CAP website.

To win the prestigious award, a vehicle must "serve both public and trade equally by offering value for money and reliability" while remaining desirable on the market. CAP felt the Ford Fiesta best represented those desired qualifications in 2012.

"(The Fiesta) is the perfect used car choice for motorist and used car dealers," according to the CAP's judging panel.

Judges also felt that the vehicle is one of the rare vehicles that still looks new even after one or two updated models have been released. This makes the vehicle more attractive to those who are looking for a used car at an affordable price.

The fact that the Fiesta is also one of the "freshest" Superminis around also helped its case, as it is desired by both young adults and older drivers.

Cars are also put through a series of "real life" tests and scenario's to determine which actually performs as it should. A nine-month old Fiesta was purchased for retail price according to CAP with over 10,000 miles on it. The vehicle now has 40,000 miles on it and still runs same as it did when purchased according to Fleet News.

"The Ford Fiesta is a genuinely great used car for all of the reasons we have outlined," said Norman to Car Dealer Magazine. "Motorists love it because it does exactly what they want it to. Dealers love it because it provides them with a reliable and fair profit opportunity and the accolade of CAP Used Car of the Year 2012 is well deserved by the Ford Fiesta."
