Volkswagen has launched its new plug-in hybrid, PASSAT GTE, which has an interesting feature of three methods of propulsion. It runs with 1.4-liter of petrol engine turbo-charged and super-charged that is teamed up with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen claims that Passat GTE can run up to 31 miles in electric-only mode and drivers can choose which motor or engine they'd prefer to use, whether its petrol or electric. It can be fully charged with electricity and also with a 50-liter tank fuel. It can take up to 664 miles.

It will certainly suit some buyers very well since it has elegance, perfect style, and a classy spacious cabin. The car's acceleration is about 30 mph, which beats most of the four-wheeled things on the road.

When it comes to its efficiency, the GTE uses a 9.9 kWh lithium-ion high-voltage battery to power the electric motor that gives up to 31 miles in all of the electric mode and overall 600 miles of driving. The NEDC consumption for the new GTE is over 141 mpg, which under 2.0 l/100 km and 13.0 kWh/100km. This equates to CO2 emissions lower than 45 g/km, as published on Passat website.

When it comes to new GTE's performance, it is powered by 154 horsepower, 1.4 liters turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, and an electric motor. The combined power output would be 215 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque.

With the use of a six-gear dual clutch gearbox especially flourished for the hybrid drive of the vehicle, the VW GTE plug-in hybrid is able to speed up from zero to 62 mph in less than 8 seconds. Some of the VW Passat GTE's additional specifications would include the 113 HP of an electric motor, top speed 130 km/h in all-electric mode, and top speed 220 km/h by TSI.

Its safety features include side assist with rear traffic alert, and a traffic jam assistance which makes stop and go driving more at ease. It also has emergency assistance which can potentially halt a vehicle when the driver is impaired.

The new GTE offers the newest front assist system with city emergency braking as well as predictive pedestrian protection. The driver's safety is very much well prioritized by the Volkswagen company, so consumers may need not to worry when driving the VW Passat GTE.
