North Texas police have reported that they still can't find a man who stole a police vehicle after being handcuffed and placed in the backseat of the same vehicle on Dec. 7.
Darren Porter was arrested by Texas police officers on Friday after he broke into an antique shop in White Settlement, TX according to the New York Daily News. Cops then handcuffed Porter and placed him in the backseat in one of the officer's vehicles. The officers then left Porter alone to talk with the owner of the antique shop.
Porter than reportedly managed to slip his hands to the front of his body, rolled down the window of the back seat and unlocked the front door from the outside. The thief then got into the driver's side of the vehicle, started the vehicle up and took off.
The entire event was recorded on a dash camera from the second officer's vehicle.
The car was found abandoned soon after at a nearby apartment complex according to White Settlement Police Department.
The antique shop owner Kenny Boone actually said the scene was a little comical according to Sky News.
"It kind of reminded me of the Keystone cops," Boone said to Sky News. "They were all running for their police car to chase this guy. I shouldn't say it was funny but it was kind of comical."
The Police Department stated that the windows are supposed to be disabled to prevent criminals from being able to get out. They're not sure why the windows were disabled in the car Porter got away in, but they have been checking others to make sure they do not open.
All weapons inside the vehicle have been accounted for according to CNN, but they still have no idea where Porter could be.
This isn't Porter's first arrest however, as he has been arrested for burglaries and thefts in the past. He was recently arrested in April and served 90 days behind bars according to the New York Daily News.
"We know who he is. We've dealt with him previously," Lt. J.P. Bevering told NBC News. "We know his associates, so now we're in the process of contacting them and keeping an eye out for him."
