Editors from Motor Trend named the 2013 Ram 1500 its "Truck of the Year" this week according to a Chrysler press release. Editors chose the vehicle for its air suspension, variety of trim levels, towing capability and other new features and capabilities.
Chrysler announced the news this week in a press release on their company website.
"We had a small but solid field of contenders for Motor Trend's Truck of the Year," said Edward Loh, Editor-in-Chief of Motor Trend in the press release. "But in the end, the choice was clear: Ram 1500 not only withstood our rigorous testing, it impressed at every step along the way."
To qualify for the award, trucks are put through six different tests, which include Design Advancement, Intended Function, Engineering Excellence, Safety Value, and Efficiency. After testing is completed editors then tally up the scores to figure out which vehicle did the best overall in each category to determine a winner.
To be considered for the award, a vehicle also has to either be a new model or "substantially changed" from a previously released model according to the press release.
"Our judges were won over by the performance of Ram 1500's broad array of standard and optional equipment," said Loh in the press release. "It's a truck that can be tailored to meet most anyone's needs. For these reasons and more, we're excited to name the Ram 1500 the Motor Trend 2013 Truck of the Year."
The 2013 model offers a "best-in-class" 25 MPG fuel efficiency and new technological features without having to get rid of any capabilities that Ram customers have grown to love according to Chrysler. The truck is equipped with either the 5.7 liter HEMI V-8 engine or Pentastar V-6 option, providing arguably the best available and most reliable powertrain options in the U.S.
Some other features customers can expect include eight-speed automatic transmission, pulse-width modulation, grille shutters and a stop-start system according to Chrysler. The vehicle also comes in nine different trim levels.
The vehicle can be purchased here for a base price average of $23, 585 after addition fees are added.
"The new Ram 1500 makes a powerful statement about our company and the Ram Truck Brand," said Fred Diaz, President and CEO Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico in the press release. "Motor Trend's Truck of the Year is an amazing honor; truly one of the most prestigious awards an automaker can achieve. It reaffirms the fact that Ram has the best truck on the road today. Bar none."
