Land Rover's Range Rover Sport SVR is known to be an elegant, stable and fast car on paved roads, having done impressively fast lap times around famed tracks. The company recently decided to further test the vehicle by doing the zero to 60 mph run in six different terrains.
Motor Authority reports that the reason for the tests is best described in the words of the driver of the testing program, Darren Jones, who is also the Stability Application Leader for Jaguar Land Rover: "The Range Rover Sport SVR is famed for its on-road performance but this hasn't been achieved at the expense of customary Land Rover capability. Our Terrain Response 2 technology takes the stress out of driving in all conditions."
The surfaces on which the Range Rover Sport SVR was tested were asphalt, grass, gravel, snow mud and sand. During the tests, the vehicle was powered by the 5.0-liter V-8 engine running with the standard Michelin 275/45R21 all-weather tires, all-wheel-drive mode and the Terrain Response 2 System.
The System uses different modes that adjust to the surface environment. The test on asphalt was done at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, England. With the Terrain Response System at Dynamic Mode, the SVR blitzed the 0-60 mph run in 4.7 seconds. The time posted was 4.7 seconds.
Over the grassy surface in East England, the Grass/Gravel/Snow Mode was used and the Range Rover Sport SVR recorded 5.5 seconds. The system makes adjustments in the throttle and the timing in the gear shifts.
The SVR ran the gravel surface in 5.3 seconds using the same Terrain Response System Mode as the one used in grass surface. The 0-60 mph speed test on a snowy surface was done in Arjeplog, Northern Sweden at the Land Rover test grounds. The SVR recorded a slow 11.3 seconds over snow.
The Mud and Ruts Mode was used in the mud test. The SVR cruised over an off-track muddy road in 6.5 seconds. The company was satisfied with the results of the 0 - 60 mph test program done on the Range Rover Sport SVR.
