Ford is predicting November will be the best sales month ever for company's critically acclaimed hybrid vehicles. Over 6,000 vehicles are expected to be sold by the end of Friday, which would be a new all-time high for Ford.
If the company accomplishes the feat, Ford will represent 11 percent of all electric vehicles sold in November, a drastic increase compared to just a month before when sales were under 10 percent.
"Our electrified vehicles are a great symbol of how Ford is delivering leading fuel economy across our lineup - something that's driving more and more customers to switch to us from Toyota and others," says C.J. O'Donnell, marketing manager for Ford Electrified Vehicles in the press release.
The new record would beat the previous mark of 5,353 hybrid vehicles sold in July of 2009 according to the company's press release.
The news comes days after the company's Fusion vehicle was named the Green Car Journal's 2013 Green Car of the Year award. The award was announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The vehicle won the award due to its "diverse portfolio of clean and efficient power choices" according to Ford and its advanced features. The vehicle is also in high demand as over 27 percent of all retail orders for Fusion vehicles are for the hybrid model according to the press release.
The company advertises the new Fusion vehicle as the nation's most fuel-efficient midsize sedan since it allows 47 mpg for highway and city driving combined. In comparison, the Toyota Camry Hybrid model offers 5 mpg on the highway according to the Toyota site.
"We're providing our customers the power to choose from a suite of electric vehicles that offer leading fuel economy, performance and technology," said O'Donnell. "(This comes) at a perfect time when nearly all customers are prioritizing fuel economy and more than 60 percent are considering hybrids."
The company announced this week that the Ford Fusion Energi hybrid will go into production towards the end of the year and should be in dealerships by early 2013.
