Ram Truck revealed plans today that they will be developing a new large van for North America. The Fiat-based 2014 Ram ProMaster will be on sale at dealerships by the beginning of the third quarter in 2013 according to the company's press release.
"The Ram ProMaster further strengthens our commercial lineup, offering a full line of work trucks and vans," said Fred Diaz, President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC in the company's press release. "As the Ram Truck Brand continues to gain share and grow sales in the retail truck market, we will be just as aggressive in our goal to be a commercial truck market leader."
The vehicle was designed due to the success of the Fiat Ducato, and while the company confirmed that the ProMaster will contain similar features, it will also be significantly different once it is finally release.
The company stated that more details about the large van will be released within the next couple of months. Ram already feels confident however that the vehicle will be a success commercially and well received by critics as well.
Chrysler plans on using the ProMaster to compete with other full-sized commercial vans like the Ford E-Series Wagon and GMC Savana Passenger Van.
"We feel that from a product-feature and launch timing standpoint, the all-new Ram ProMaster van is going to be a home run with commercial customers," Diaz said in the press release. "Our relationship with Fiat, one of the world's foremost commercial truck makers, has given us access to great products and technology that will resonate with our U.S. and Canadian Ram Truck customers."
This will be the third ProMaster released commerically by Ram, who has sold over four million ProMaster vehicles worldwide according to the company's website.
