Microsoft has recently announced that it has acquired Simplygon. It is a Swedish company that developed three-dimensional (3D) optimization solutions for game developers and other industries in order to visualize 3D data.
The 3D company was founded in 2006 by Donya Labs AB in Sweden, with the aim of becoming the premier developer of automatic 3D data optimization solutions. They greatly focusing their work on helping creators and users of data across various industries automate and optimize their output. Microsoft's desire will absolutely fit in pushing out more 3D content and could be seen as a big step for the company in moving towards.
The Microsoft's Corporate Vice President and Next Gen Experiences Kudo Tsunoda announced that Simplygon's technology and talent will strengthen its position in 3D creation making it easier to capture, create and share in 3D. It builds on with the aspirations to empower a new wave of creativity with the use of Windows 10 Creators update.
It includes a Paint 3D app that will enable users to create and capture real-world objects and users will be able to share their creations with its new online community at Remix3D.com. It is often used by much major game development studios and augmented reality or virtual reality space. Simplygon also has offerings in the automotive interactive visualization and e-commerce markets.
The company's technology essentially optimizes the original 3D data and then optimizes it for a specific use case and output target. Simplygon is used by over 80 percent of top video game studios. The clients are Nintendo, Bethesda, Sony, Ubisoft, and Konami.
The optimization tool will also have application for Microsoft's HoloLen's mixed reality device. They are typically used by many game developers to enhance the visual fidelity of their virtual worlds and grasp out better performance.
This acquisition is a demonstration of Microsoft's feelings in the area of 3D and the 3D for everyone vision and strategy. Hopefully, such acquisition of the Simplygon's technology will bring the world into mixed reality with a variety of Windows Holographic devices.
