The Volvo S60 Polestar will be making its second public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week and will be displayed for the first time since this past summer.
Since being showcased this past June at the Sweden Gothenburg City Race, the S60 has received a lot of buzz from car enthusiast and Volvo fans alike.
"This is Polestar's interpretation of the Volvo S60," said Christian Dahl, founder and CEO of Polestar to Student Wise. "It's a car developed with our own preferences in mind, although we know they are also shared by active drivers."
The company has yet to decide if they're going to release the vehicle in mass production yet and the car that will appear at the LA Auto Show is the only one the company has produced so far. That could all change depending on the reaction the car gets next week.
The new Volvo has a top speed of 186 mph, and can reach 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. In comparison, the similar Audi RS4 model can reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds according to Audi.
The vehicle is powered by a 3.0 liter, T6 inline six-engine equipped with a Garret 3171 turbocharger according to Volvo. The company has also recently confirmed that the engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox which results in 580 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 424 pound-ft of torque.
The horsepower capability is far superior to the car's closet rivals like the RS4 and many different BMW models. This is a great achievement for the company, but in the wrong hands the car could be a little dangerous on the road.
Volvo currently makes the S60 R-Design and XC60 R-Design which both have 325 horsepower and 325 pound-ft of torque.
"We approached this project by looking at the production Volvo S60 as a platform for a potential race car, and the culmination of that data went into the design of the S50 Polestar Concept," said Jan Andersson, chief engineer at Polestar to Student Wise.
The LA Auto Show will take place from Nov. 30 until Dec. 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
