The expected shipping times for the iPhone 5 improved today when ordering the phone directly online as Apple has alerted customers the phone will now be sent out in under two weeks.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a press conference this week that he is pleased with how the company is handling the high demand for the phone, but it is "difficult to predict" when things will start to balance out more as they have had trouble keeping up with orders for the newest Apple phone.

"Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said in a press statement.

As of last Friday the wait was at least three weeks on the Apple website and in many Apple retail stores. Now the company has the shipping estimated time changed to as early as one week. The company hasn't revealed how they are planning on getting more phones released at a quicker pace, but no one will be complaining either way as long as they are true to their word.

Most Verizon Wireless stores that have phones in stock are charging an estimated $199 to $399 for models with 16Gb to 64GB respectively. Over five million iPhone 5's have been sold since its release on Sept. 21 and it has battled neck and neck with the Google Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S3 for sales domination.

"While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date," said Cook. "We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone."

The demand for the Nexus 4 and S3 has also been high as well as both phones sold out quickly in countries like U.S., Australia, and the United Kingdom. Demand for the Nexus phone was so drastic that Google servers crashed minutes after the phone went on sale. The crash made it impossible for interested customers to place orders according to Information Week.

Google has yet to let people know when they can expect phones to be delivered by, as the company just has a "Check Back Later" message posted on their Google Play Store web-page.

Apple started accepting orders for the new iPhone 5 on Sept. 14. One hour after pre-orders started for the phone, the device was completely sold out. Shipping times have been pushed back ever since until today.
