Ford Motors will pledge $1 million to the American Red Cross for workplace development training for military members, veterans, and their families.
Money will also go towards disaster relief through Red Cross Disaster Responder program according to the company's press release. Through the grant, over 200 veterans and their family members will be able to receive scholarship assistance for a career in health care.

"Ford's support allows us to extend our nurse assistant training program in five areas of the country and helps us serve a larger number of service members and their families," said Lynn Crabb, senior director of Policy and Programs, Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces in the press release.
The company has agreed to a two-year commitment donation to the Red Cross which will eventually be expanded to provide 200 Blue Oval Scholarships for nurse assistant training in the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program.
The scholarships will allow veterans, those who will be leaving the military soon, and military service family members to receive training for careers in the health field.
"Recent government data show unemployment among post-9/11 veterans is at 9.7 percent," said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services in the press release. "This expansion of our Red Cross partnership provides deserving veterans and their family members the chance to build new careers in the nursing field, which is a win-win-win for them, the Red Cross and our communities."
The funding continues the $50,000 in Ford grants that the company has provided the past two years which has gone to the southeastern Michigan region health care career training program and disaster services programs according to the press release.
Ford will also be joining the Red Cross Disaster Responder program and pledged donations on an ongoing basis "in advance of major disasters", which will allow Ford to help the Red Cross ensure an automatic response to those who have been affected by a major disaster of any size, in any location, for no cost regardless of income.
