The man who accused Kevin Clash of having an underage sexual relationship on Monday has now reportedly taken back his claim according to The New York Times.
Clash, who is famous for being the voice and puppeteer of Elmo on the children's television show "Sesame Street" took a leave of absence from Sesame Workshop yesterday in an attempt to deal with the matter.
Andreozzi & Associates released a statement this afternoon claiming that their client was dropping the allegations against Clash and will have no further comment on the matter. The man wants it to be known publicly that the two "had a sexual and consensual adult relationship" together and that no foul play took place while the man accusing him of the crime while he was underage.
The man has not been publicly ousted yet by the press.
Clash had never disclosed his sexual preference and was upset that his homosexuality was made public in the press. He didn't say he was ashamed of being a homosexual, rather he didn't want his sexual preference to impact the way people viewed and thought of him.
"I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest," Clash said through his spokesman. "I will not discuss it further."
The news of the allegations set the media world by storm yesterday as people publicly voiced their displeasure with Clash who had a previous reputation of being a stand up guy that children could look up to and learn from.
The Sesame Workshop conducted their own investigation since the man accused Clash of having a relationship when he was only 16-years-old and working on the "Sesame Street" program. Clash was reportedly distraught from the accusations, of which he considered "outrageous" and publicly denied anything took place between the two men until the man was over the age of 18. The company has yet to announce when Clash will return to the show.
Clash received much fame for being on "Sesame Street", having been awarded with 10 Daytime Emmy's and was the first recipient of the "Miss Jean Worthley Award for service to Families and Children by the Maryland Public Television Company. He was featured in the 2011 documentary "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey" which was critically acclaimed and received positive reviews on sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB.
