The DigiiTimes, a Chinese-language newspaper made a bold claim this week by stating the iPhone 5S will be released much sooner than expected.
According to the newspaper, the phone will start production in December and we could expect to see the Apple product later that month. The company is expected to sell around 50,000 to 100,000 phones at first to see how they do in selected markets.
The newspaper has had a shaky track record in the past, but with Apple struggling to keep production up for the iPhone 5, it is likely that they may consider rushing the next phone to satisfy their customers.
"It's not easy to make the iPhones," said Foxconn CEO Terry Gou in a press release last week. "We are falling short of meeting the huge demand."
Another iPad Already?
The Commercial Times is also reporting that a new iPad is also in the works for a second quarter release date sometime in 2013. The new device is expected to be the iPad mini 2.
The next iPad mini will be a 7.9-inch retina-caliber device with a much thinner frame than the first version. The iPad mini is also expected to have IGZO technology to extend battery life past the usual 10-12 hour mark. This would help the device compete with other devices like the Kindle Fire which contains a much longer battery life that the first version of the iPad Mini.
The paper also talked about an Apple TV set that is in production but this has proved to just be a rumor in the past as the company has given no indication that they are constructing a television set.
Samsung Proves Popular In UK
According to Yahoo, Apple's rival Samsung sold out of there Nexus 4G when the phone went on sale in Google Play's UK store in only 15 minutes. The 8GGB version of the phone went on sale Friday along with the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 selling at a record pace.
CNET reports that the 8GB, the Nexus 4 16GB, and the Nexus 10 32GB are already out of stock. On the Google Play store, for those devices there are no purchase buttons, rather a "Notify Me" button to let people know when the phone is back in stock.
The high demand for the products occurred because Google didn't think there products would sell well in the UK. People have gone to Twitter and the company site to complain that after waiting so long to finally get their hands on one of the devices they weren't able to and some local stores are even saying they won't have the phones in for weeks.
