NES Classic Part Two: Is Nintendo Creating Another Artificial Hype & Demand In Nintendo Switch?

The long wait is over for gaming enthusiasts. The Nintendo Switch will finally hit the gaming company's store in New York City on Friday, January 13. The store will open at 9 AM but customers are told that the handheld console will only have limited quantity of pre-orders while supplies last.

Nintendo announced this good news on Twitter. It won't harm to try to pre-order the console but customers are advised not to get their hopes up. The hype surrounding the Switch is now being compared to that of the NES Classic, which received relatively small shipments.

The Twitter post about the "limited quantity of preoders" did not sit well with the Japanese gaming giant's followers on the microblogging site. For @salvucci91, Nintendo is creating another artificial hype and demand in Nintendo Switch. For @Manuelmo922, he sees this strategy being done by Nintendo to GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. For @AtomicBrad, the limited quantity of preorders does not make sense.

The complex systems of supply and demand seem like a bailiwick for Nintendo. Its Wii gaming system was released in 2006 but the console's shortage in 2007 was intentional, according to retailer Gamestop.

Last year, the NES Classic re-emerged in the market to plenty of hype. However, many customers left empty-handed due to limited supply or lack of inventory. Units of the retro gaming console were wiped out in seconds.

It's too early to tell if the Nintendo Switch will suffer the fates of Wii and NES Classic, supply wise (let's pray for the best). The device will have its official launch today. Information on pricing or how to place an order will be unveiled a few hours from now. Many are hoping that Nintendo will learn from its previous mistakes and make more customers happy.
