Nor’easter Threatens East Coast, Halts Hurricane Sandy Reconstruction, Could Bring A Foot Of Snow, Will Your State Be Affected?

Just a week after the Hurricane Sandy super storm caused massive damage throughout the east coast, residents in New York, New Jersey and other east coast states have been warned to expect heavy snow and wind the next two days.

Many locations in NY were evacuated Tuesday night with winds expected to reach 50 mph in certain locations. The nor'easter storm isn't predicted to be as bad as Sandy was just last week that left millions of people without power, and thousands without their homes, but it still could cause some damage along the east coast.

"We live by the adage - prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and that's exactly what we're doing," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

One to three inches is expected in areas like Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, D.C. but the snowfall on the coast lines could reach 3 feet by Thursday night.

Governor Chris Christie warned residents of New Jersey to expect setbacks in the reconstruction process in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy thanks to the nor'easter. This is bad news for those that are still suffering without power, heat or even their homes.

"This progress may be impeded. I know that's awful to think about," said Christie, while speaking in the Long Beach Island section of Harvey Cedars when speaking about the reconstruction process.

During the news conference on Wednesday, Christie stated that NJ is prepared for Winter Storm Athena and he has advised counties to take the necessary procedures to make sure residents are safe during the storm. He has also ordered counties to prepare snow plows to deal with the heavy snow fall predicted in most locations across the state.

Sand dunes are being constructed at certain locations on the Jersey Shore areas to help prevent more flooding damage according to The Wall-Street Journal.

"The fact that I have 2.1 million people with power back doesn't mean a damn to you if you don't have your power back. You're happy for your neighbor, but you're not happy until you lights go on, until your heat goes on, and I recognize that," Christie said to ABC News.

Almost 400,000 people in NJ are still without power thanks to Hurricane Sandy, which is down from the 2.76 million total from last week. The number is still very high, considering those people won't be able to put there heat on during the low temperatures the state will be experiencing the next couple of days.

Unfortunately Christie is also predicting that a lot of people who just got their power back could lose it again within the next couple of days due to the storm.

Workers were hoping to get power back on for everyone in the state by Saturday by heavy winds that reached over 40 mph prevented crews from going out. Weather.gov has warned people in the state that they could experience winds up to 60 mph in certain locations across the state on Wednesday and Thursday.

United Airlines suspended most of its NY service planes at around noon today and American Airlines announced they would be suspending planes going to and from NY at 3 p.m. on Wednesday until further notice according to ABC News.
