The wife of a man who was trying to land a small plane at a Dallas-area airport was able to capture the plane hitting the roof of a black SUV driving by near the runway.
One person was injured in the crash, but no one suffered life-threatening injuries at the Northwest Regional Airport in Roanoke, Texas according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
Lonny Haschel, the Department of Public Safety spokesman said that the incident took place around 10:50 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The video captures pilot William Davis attempting to land a single-engine 2005 Cessna Sky Hawk on Saturday when a SUV pulls up out of nowhere. The landing gear of the plane then hit the roof of the SUV and due to the impact the landing gear completely broke off.
The pilot's wife Katy Davis had been filming the event, and continued to do so as the plane hit the SUV.
The plane then went crashing down seconds later , but since it was already so close to the ground, the pilot wasn't seriously injured.
"When cars cross that area they are supposed to stop and wait for any airplanes," said Deputy Chief Gilbert Caldwell of the Roanoke Fire Department to The Dallas Morning News. "Either the plane didn't see the car or the car didn't see the plane."
NBC reports that the word stop is painted on the roadway near the runway way, but the driver either missed it or completely avoided it believing no planes would be going by at the time. One has to wonder why the driver of the vehicle was allowed to drive so close to runway in the first place. The road near the landing strip should be closed off temporarily when a plane is expected to come in for a landing.
This is the fourth incident involving a plane at the Roanoke Airport to occur in the past two months.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the crash.
