Fernando Alonso has pointed out that the current F1 is now as boring as in the days of Prost and Senna due to the difference between the different cars. The Spaniard F1 racer believes the best moment of the category was in the 2000s where he and Michael Schumacher dueled.
A stern critic of recent F1, Fernando Alonso reckons many of the 2014-16 regulation problems compromised the popularity of F1 reminiscent to the 80's championship. He added that if one will see a race from 1985, 1988 or 1992, one can fall asleep because it was just two McLarens, then the fourth guy got lapped, and then there were 25 seconds between each car and a tenth that wasn't able to finish the race due to reliability issues.
Fernando Alonso warns that television audiences and viewers are dropping nowadays as it is like the 80's all over again with all the rules in saving fuel, saving tires and monopoly of great racers, according to EuroSport. The Spanish rider regrets that the current F1 regulations also prevented to utilize technology to its maximum. He added that back then, the resources and budgets allow them to create fantastic f1 cars but now they dont have that feeling anymore.
Fernando Alonso indicates that in 2000, there was a "boom" of builders and Formula 1 was at the top of its prime when Michael Schumacher was racing. Statistics show that he is actually right as F1 definitely grew in that period. Many builders came to F1: BMW, Toyota and many others. There were many television viewers and F1 opened to new countries: Korea, India, Singapore, Spain and many others, according to Marca.
On the bright side, Fernando Alonso believes that nowadays, pilots are more treated with respect when they retire and that is a great improvement. Alonso is also optimistic for the 2017 F1 season with new designs and new riders coming in.
