Nokia is finally back in the game of smartphones. This time, they'll be releasing an Android-powered smartphone sometime this 2017.
Nokia 6 is the name of Nokia's smartphone which is scheduled for release this year. HMD Global, the company that is known for developing mobile phones under the Nokia name said in a press release that Nokia 6 will be Nokia's first Android-powered smartphone. Nokia 6 will feature 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage with microSD support, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, and 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone will also feature 430 processor with an X6 LTE modem and will run on Android's latest processor, the Android Nougat.
In the press release, HMD Global also announced that Nokia 6 will only be available in China. It will be available in JD.com and is scheduled for release in early 2017. According to them, releasing in China will open up a lot of dynamics for the phone. They said that it will be a lot easier to re-establish Nokia's fame in China than in other locations where Nokia once ruled. They also said that China will be a reflection in meeting the needs of customers all over the world, considering that China has the largest and most competitive market for smartphones in the world. The price for Nokia 6 will be around 1699 Yuan or $245 once it's released.
With Nokia 6's release, this will mark Nokia's first step into the Android community. This, however, is not the first time Nokia has released a smartphone of the market. The Lumia series, which was first launched by Nokia in 2011, marked the first chance for the company in the smartphone industry. The Lumia series is a result of Nokia's long-time partnership with Microsoft, resulting in the Lumia to be powered up using Microsoft's operating system. However, the Lumia series got discontinued after Microsoft bought the rights for it back in 2014. This resulted into phasing out Nokia's name on the series and replaced it with Microsoft's. In 2016, Microsoft eventually stopped selling the Lumia line in the US because of its poor sales.
