Hot Wheels aren't just for kids anymore after Chevrolet debuted the 2013 Camaro Hot Wheels Special Edition at the SEMA Auto Show. This is the first time that a full-sized Hot Wheel vehicle will be up for sale.
The car was designed to look similar to smaller Chevrolet Hot Wheels that people have grown up with for over 40 years now. The new Camaro will be released in early 2013.
"Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing in the General Motors press release. "Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages."
The inside features a black leather-trimmed interior with red and black seat stitching and the Hot Wheels logo can be found on the front seats according to the press release.
Exterior features that should satisfy Hot Wheels fans include a rear spoiler, black 21-inch wheels, a two-tone matte hood graphic, and a front splitter. There is also a number of Hot Wheels logos placed on the outside of the car and fender flame decals as well.
The SS model will include a 6.2 liter V-8 engine, which can come in either automatic or manual. The horsepower for the L88 is 400 and the torque is around 410 pounds. The LT model will include a LFX 3.6 liter V-6 engine, with variable valve timing and direct injection. This model comes with horsepower of over 323.
"It's been nearly 20 years since I started designing cars for Hot Wheels and I have yet to drive one home," said Felix Holst, vice president of creative for the Mattel Wheels Division. "Personally, I can't wait to open the doors and see the Hot Wheels Camaro sitting in the garage."
Some standard features included with the vehicle will be a custom Chevrolet MyLInk infotainment system, which is a touch radio with a seven-inch screen that can come with a navigation system. The car promotes wireless activity by including Blutooth capability, wireless connectivity and wireless OnStar assistance to make driving safer.
