iPad 4 vs. iPad Mini Review, Which One You Should Buy, Price, Features, Size Comparison

Over 700 people were on hand Tuesday for the Apple event which was expected to be the grand announcement of the iPad mini. While the mini was in fact showcased for the first time, Apple also had a few other gadgets waiting up their sleeves.

One of the other devices included an updated iPad, just six months after the previous one debuted. This was widely considered a puzzling announcement by Apple, and has some customers of the previous model complaining.

Though the iPad mini will be competing directly with devices like the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7, some say its biggest competition may actually be the iPad 4.

Here are a couple of reasons why the two Apple products may compete directly instead of working together and which one would probably win head to head.

Cost:

The iPad mini tablet has been priced at $329.00 for the 16 GB and the 4G version will cost buyers $458. Some experts are flabbergasted that Apple would list the mini at such a high price when the Kindle is sold at an average $159.

The new iPad 4 will cost $499 for the 16GB, $599 for the 32 GB, and $699 for the 64 GB.

The company has sold 84 million iPads since it was first released and has been selling at a respectable rate since. The news of a new iPad so soon has to have customers furious, especially those who just purchased their iPad thinking they were getting the newest device out there.

Size:

iPad mini has a 7.9-inch LED-backlit screen, and is 7.87 inches, 5.3 inches wide, and weighs less than a pound.

The iPad 4 is 9.7 inch LED-backlit screen, and is 7.31 inches wide, and weights around one pound.

Features:

iPad mini comes with Dual Core A5 Processor, 1024 x 768 Display Resolution, 163 Pixels per inch, 10 hour battery life and a 30 pin lightning connector. Two cameras are installed on the mini as well, one in the front and one in the back which also allows for video recording accessibility. The mini comes equipped with a dual-core A5 memory chip.

The new iPad comes with 2048 x 1536 Display Resolution, 264 Pixels per inch, two cameras, and 9-10 hour battery life. The device also comes with a lightning connector and mini-touch display with IPS technology as well. It also comes with a dual core A6X with quad-core graphics chip.

Availability:

The iPad Mini is available for pre-order beginning on Oct. 26. The device will be on sale in Apple stores starting at 8 a.m. on Nov. 2.

The iPad 4 meanwhile is already available for preorder and will be in stores on Nov. 2 as well.

Conclusion:

Overall, you're really not going to get much of a different between the two new products. The biggest difference is the size, so if you own an iPad already and you're looking for something smaller to carry around then the iPad mini is a good choice. If you don't already own an iPad and you're looking for something that acts like a regular laptop but is smaller in size then the iPad 4 is a safe bet.

Head to head, you will probably get more for your money purchasing the iPad 4 if you are okay with the fact that they seem to be releasing new ones every six months or so.

Knowing all that, which one will you be purchasing?
