The 2013 models of the Dodge Dart, Hyundai Santa Fe, Lexus ES, and Subaru XV Crosstek were named Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Picks this past week.
For a vehicle to become an IIHS Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must achieve a Good score in the front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The rollover test looks at a vehicle's roof strength, and to pass the crash test a car's roof has to endure a force up to four times the weight of the car.
"Safety continues to be a top priority at Hyundai, so we are thrilled to see our brand new Santa Fe on this important and prestigious list," said Mike O'Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America on the Hyundai website.
The Subaru Crosstrek earned a "good" rating for each test it was put through and was the top ranked car of the vehicles that made the 2012 Top Safety Picks list. 11 previous Chrysler cars have been named an IIHS Top Safety Pick in the past.
The IIHS ranks in terms of Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor.
