Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now getting the assistance he needs from Morgan Freeman, rather, his new artificial intelligence assistant, Jarvis. He created Jarvis on an app that he unveiled in his Facebook page.
Zuckerberg said it was a year of decoding before Jarvis was revealed. He can be seen in his Facebook post using Jarvis to control the lights, the thermostat, read a bedtime story (using the soothing voice of Morgan Freeman) to Max (his toddler daughter), and even make him toast.
Jarvis is made to understand him and figure out what to do. According to his Facebook notes, the app uses "several artificial intelligence techniques including natural language processing, speech recognition, face recognition, and reinforcement learning, written in Python, PHP and Objective C." He can talk to the app on his phone and computer to control his home, including appliances, music and security. Like humans, he can even learn his tastes, patterns, new words and concepts.
The voice interactive assistant took its name from a similar AI device in the "Iron Man" films. Morgan Freeman provides Jarvis its voice, according to ABC News.
In his Facebook page, he said the video was meant to be a "fun summary and not a live demo," where he also posted the "note" he published. Bill Gates even commented on the post, asking if Jarvis can "secretly order a hamburger and have it delivered to the back door," saying he was asking for a friend. Zuckerberg answered saying he thinks he can build it for him (Bill Gates).
The voice can be changed, said Zuckerberg in the video, and can even be given a command via text message if one prefers it. To him, building Jarvis was an interesting intellectual challenge and it gave him direct experience building AI tools in areas important to the future of tech. Check out the video below.
