Animal rights activist are looking into taking legal action against the former Jackass star Bam Margera after he posted a picture online of him pointing a toy gun at his dog's head.

Margera tweeted this message and photo on his Twitter account:

Margera stated in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer that the gun was a fake, and he had no idea the picture was going to cause such a commotion. He was also unaware that many people near his home in Philadelphia have been abusing their animals, which makes matters for him so much worse.

He assumed that most of his Twitter followers would think that he was joking knowing the way he is on the television shows he's appeared on.

"I think those people need to go down," said Margera. "Just hurting another animal is rude, crude and more."

Along with starring on "Jackass" in 2000 through 2002, Margera gained even more popularity when he stared on another MTV show called "Viva La Bam" for three seasons. The show was about Margera's daily life and made stars out of his family members for a short time.

His appeal and popularity have been on a rapid decline since the show ended in 2006 however.

He was married in 2007 to Melissa "Missy" Rothstein and the preparations for it were documented in the one season show "Bam's Unholy Union".

He has appeared in the three "Jackass" movies as well as the movie "Grind" in 2003.
